A
- Access routes
- Areas which are designated for access within a property - stairways and corridors.
- Acoustic bridge
- Poor, incorrectly or impermissibly designed connection of facade elements between two rooms or across two or more rooms. Connection of the floating screed with the surrounding walls and/or raw ceiling. Acoustic bridges can substantially worsen the step noise insulation of ceilings.
- Acoustic Insulation
- The ability of a building element or system to reduce sound transmission between spaces. Measured in decibels (dB) and expressed as a sound reduction index that high-performance windows and door systems often incorporate through specialised glazing and sealing technologies.
- ADS

- Aerodynamic surface
- The aerodynamic surface in m² indicates what cross-section can be used for heat and smoke extraction systems.
- Affiliation payment
- In Austria, the municipality levies this charge. The landowner thereby contributes to the costs for providing roads or vehicle areas in front of the property.
- AFI
- The Aluminium Window Institute (Aluminium Fenster Institut) was founded in 1987. The objective of the association is to improve the general level of information regarding aluminium windows and facades, and in particular the professional development, production, installation and maintenance of high-quality designs in Austria. The institute supports measures for the technical development of aluminium windows and facades. AFI is playing a significant role in increasing the intrinsic value of properties in the residential, non-residential, newbuild and refurbishment sectors.
- Air Tightness
- A measure of how well a building envelope resists uncontrolled air leakage, key to energy performance and occupant comfort. Verified on site through testing and inspection.

- The term AKS TechDoc is a term which summarises the online documentation of our business. AKS TechDocWeb is a browser-based online platform for our customers, partners, and employees. - ALB
- Schüco Aluminium Louvre Blade: Sun protection louvre system. Can be supplied mobile or rigid, vertically or horizontally designed, or alternatively as a sliding solution.
- Aluminium
- Aluminium (Al) belongs to the light metals and has the atomic number 13. It is a common element in the earth's crust. In 2014, 48 million t of primary aluminium were manufactured. Aluminium has a density of 2.7 g/cm³, a melting point of around 650°C and a thermal coefficient of expansion of 2.4mm/m100°K. (For comparison: steel 1.2mm/m100°K, stainless steel 1.6mm/m100°K, PVC 8.0mm/m100°K)
- Aluminium Façade
- A building envelope system constructed primarily of aluminium framing profiles. Incorporating glazing, infill panels, and weather sealing, it delivers structural stability, design flexibility, and the ability to achieve large spans with minimal visual obstruction.
